Culture Moves Europe is a scheme that supports the mobility of artists, creators and cultural professionals. It is part of Creative Europe’s Culture strand.

Culture Moves Europe connects artists, creators, and cultural professionals from the countries participating in the Creative Europe programme. The mobility scheme is particularly focused on emerging artists.

Culture Moves Europe allows around 7 000 artists, creators, and cultural professionals to go abroad for professional development or international collaborations

The scheme builds on the outcomes of I-Portunus pilot phase, that preceded Culture Moves Europe from 2018 to 2022. You can find detailed information and testimonials from beneficiaries of I-Portunus.  Culture Moves Europe has a budget of €21 million between 2022 and 2025. This allows around 7 000 artists, creators, and cultural professionals to go abroad for professional development or international collaborations, co-produce, co-create, present their works to new audiences

Culture Moves Europe, types of grants:

1. Individual mobilities action
For individual artists and cultural professionals travelling between 7 and 60 days or groups of individuals (up to 5 persons travelling between 7 and 21 days).
Rolling calls for all sectors at once will be open every year between autumn and spring.

2. Residencies action
• short term residencies from 1 to 3 months
• long term residencies from 3 to 6 months
• extended residencies up to 10 months
Calls for each sector will be open twice during the duration of the scheme.

Culture Moves Europe! Who can apply? The scheme is open for:

Artists, creators, and cultural professionals working in any cultural sector except the audio-visual sector
Organisations working in any cultural sectors except the audio-visual, regularly organizing residencies or other types of place-bound cultural projects and are interested in hosting artists and cultural professionals.

 

The Creative Europe programme 2021-2027 has a budget of € 2.44 billion, compared to €1.47 billion of the previous programme (2014-2020)

Creative Europe invests in actions that reinforce cultural diversity and respond to the needs and challenges of the cultural and creative sectors.  The main objectives of the programme are to:
• safeguard, develop and promote European cultural and linguistic diversity and heritage
• increase the competitiveness and economic potential of the cultural and creative sectors, in particular the audiovisual sector
The novelties of the programme will contribute to the recovery of these sectors, reinforcing their efforts to become more inclusive, more digital and environmentally more sustainable.

The Creative Europe programme is divided in 3 strands:

CULTURE strand – Initiatives promoting and enhancing artistic and cultural cooperation at European level.

MEDIA strand – Actions encouraging the competitiveness, innovation and sustainability of the European audiovisual sector.

CROSS-SECTORAL strand – Initiatives promoting innovative actions and collaboration across the audiovisual and cultural sectors.

The main novelties of the programme are
• stronger emphasis on transnational creation and on innovation
• easier access to funding through higher co-financing rates (greater contribution levels from Creative Europe for projects)
• emphasis on supporting EU-level cooperation to make the European audiovisual sector more globally competitive
• mobility scheme for artists and professionals
• actions that target the needs of specific creative sectors, such as music, architecture, and cultural heritage

Eligibility for funding

The Creative Europe programme is open to cultural and creative organisations from EU Member States, as well as non-EU countries. Subject to certain conditions, countries of the European Economic Area, candidate/potential candidate countries and European Neighbourhood Policy countries can also participate in the programme.
