The qualifications for Dance World Cup in Romania were held for the first time online and nevertheless, the edition was a success. Steffi Scherzer, artistic director of Zurich Dance Academy was impressed by the number of participants: It was overwhelming how many young talents want to dance and we could even feel their passion for dance on the screen.
Over sixty scholarships at the Academy of Dance Zurich Ballet, Basel Ballet Academy, Annarella Sanchez Ballet and Dance Conservatory, Youth America Grand Prix, Salerno Danza d’aMare, Ateneo della Danza, Dance World Cup Final and Novara Dance Experience, were won by young people from Romania.
I think the number of scholarships awarded says a lot about the impression made by the competitors on a high quality jury, confesses Lorela Bari, artistic director of Dance World Cup, who successfully organized an extraordinary edition of qualifications.
Dance World Cup in Romania were held for the first time online and nevertheless, the edition was a success
In the words of Ballettschule Theater Basel director Amanda Bennett: The pandemic has been extremely difficult for the dance world and it has been a joy to see so many young dancers still working hard and with such enthusiasm!

DWC Romanian Qualifier, a technical and artistic challenge but a both for the participants and for the organizers
Mrs. Lorela Bari, ballet teacher and artistic director of the Dance World Cup contest, organized this edition of qualifications in Romania. For the first time in a new form, online, in special conditions, due to the pandemic. With all the pre-contest emotions, the qualifications were a success, both for the participants and for the organizers. The members of the jury were impressed by the quality of the organization and the works presented in the competition.
Mrs. Lorela Bari shared some thoughts with us, at the end of the edition that just ended and she also sent us the impressions of the members of the international jury. We also congratulate her for the way she organized this contest and we wish a lot of success to the young participants, teachers and winners.
I was impressed by the children from the MINI category (under 9 years old)
The contest was another confirmation of the children’s desire to dance, to face others and to show that, under any conditions, they can succeed. And for me it was primarily a technical challenge, because I’m not a fan of computers and secondly of the organization, because each member of the jury was from another country, a different time zone, with the program and personal wishes. The members of the jury, each a personality in their own field, were impressed by the high level at which the children performed in all dance styles.
I had no problems, I only had emotions. The children did very well. The filming, for the most part, was of good quality, the teachers met the requirements, so the jury could see well each competitor
How do you see such events online now?
I still see online competitions as a solution for the period we are going through, not as something definitive. Nothing can replace the presence on stage of the children, their emotions behind the scenes, the joy I feel when a child comes to me, takes me in his arms and tells me how happy he is for the award.
Did any particular competitor impress you?
I was most impressed by the little ones, the Mini category (under 9 years old), because it is harder for them to understand this period and yet they presented themselves at an extraordinary level. I would like to congratulate the teachers, the choreographers and the coaches for managing to keep their interest in dance alive and to create some remarkable moments.
Mrs. Steffi Scherzer, Director Artistic Zurich Dance Academy: Caused by the Corona pandemic a digital edition was organized by Lorelei Bari to give the young generation the chance to perform and to show their talent and spirit to an international jury panel. It was simply overwhelming how many young talents want to dance and one could feel even through the screen their passion for dance.
Of course, like in every competition at the end there are the laureates. But the real winner is undoubtedly our art form! Despite the worldwide challenging Covid 19 pandemic situation, the young generation showed impressingly their strong will to have a future in dance. A huge congratulation to Lorelei Bari and her team, to all participants and their supportive teachers who made that event a very successful event.
Mrs. Dollie Henry, Coregraf si Director Artistic BOP Jazz Theatre Productions: I have to say there was some beautiful dancers and choreography and thoroughly enjoyed judging all these wonderful and talented Dancers.
Congratulations to you for organising it and making it so easy to judge and to all the dancers who participated.
Such stunning work and really exciting to see such lovely content from so many. I hope that feedback received will encourage and determine teachers in developing better dances in the future.
Mrs. Amanda Bennett, Director Ballettschule Theater Basel: It was an honor to be a part of the jury for the Dance World Cup Romanian Qualifer.
