The third edition of”Professional Ballet Photography 2022-2023 edition” started on November 1 2022, has coming closer to the end! February 28, 2023 has been the last open day for enrolment and votes. The contest has already entered in its second phase: jury vote!

Ballet Photography professional photo helps photographers from all over the world not only connect with fellow photography enthusiasts, but also to hone and improve their skills
The first 22 artists in the order of the number of votes given by the public for their most voted photo works will enter the second stage of the contest, for the jury vote. The jury votes will select the best 3 photos of the contest but also will grant 4 special prizes for the very special 4 works.
The third edition of ”Professional Ballet Photography 2022-2023 edition” started on November 1 2022, and ended on February 28, 2023 with many photographers collaborators both with some of the most famous ballerinas but also with the greatest national or international ballet companies all over the world.
The first 22 photographers in ranking of the public vote given to theirs most voted photo work has entered in the second stage of the contest, with the jury vote during February 2022. If there were 2 or 3 photo works by the same author are included among the 22 photos with the most votes received from the public, only one work has been selected for the jury vote, respectively the one with the most votes.

MICHELE OLIVIERI, International historian and critic of dance and ballet
Michele Olivieri is registered with the National Association of Theater Critics (ANCT) and the Association Internationale des Critiques de Théâtre (AICT) and collaborates in Italy with the magazines “Sipario” and “L’Ape Musicale”. Since 2019 he is Director of the Teatrino Nino Rota Tersicoreo in Milan. He is an Honorary Member of the “Dance Project Charles Jude” Association at the “International Exams of Classic Dance”, Ambassador of the National Historical Dance Company and Honorary Member of the “Enrico Cecchetti National Dance Association” and artistic consultant of the “International Ballet Festival of Rapallo”. He has published the books like “La Danza alla Scala”, “The dance in traditional theaters”, etc.
MIHAELA TIGANUS VASILOVICI, Classical Dance and Repertoire Teacher at “Floria Capsali” Choreography High School
Graduate of the “George Enescu” High School in Bucharest, choreography section, Marialis Karda class, of the “Gheorghe Cristea” University of Sciences and Arts – Performing Arts – Choreography, Master of Psychopedagogical Training – UNATC. Classical dance and repertoire teacher in the Municipal and National Conservatories of Paris. Founding member, ballerina and choreographer in the “Les Elans” Company – Paris. Classical dance trainer at “Centre des Arts Vivants” and “Choreia”. Invited teacher in juries and internships in Paris, Bordeaux, Nancy. Teacher at the department of classical dance and repertoire, at the “Floria Capsali” Choreography High School. Direction and choreography for Gala performances at the Bucharest National Opera, performances at the Romanian Athenaeum. Career as a soloist and first soloist in numerous roles on the stage of the Bucharest National Opera. Awarded, in 2004, with the Order of “Cultural Merit” in the rank of “Knight”.
DARIA CHENIKOVA, International ballet photographer
International ballet photographer based in Moscow, Russia. Since 2016, Daria has been shooting only ballet. She works with artists from the best theaters in the world, including the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow and the Mariinsky Theater in Saint Petersburg. Daria is also trusted to take photographs of the students of the Bolshoi Ballet Academy and the Vaganova Academy. She has done a lot of shooting in Europe (Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Czech Republic, Finland, Armenia, Georgia). In her works, she underlines the grace of the ballerina’s lines, as well as the lightness and romanticism of ballet. Daria Chenikova is the winner of the special prize for the most professional photo awarded by the jury, on the Professional Ballet Photography project, 202 Edition.
LORELEI BARI, Ballet and repertoire teacher & international artistic director
Lorelei Bari is the International Artistic Director of the Dance World Cup Competition (DWC) and founder of the “La Sylphide Academic Ballet School” Ballet Academy. On her prestigious career as an International dance artist and practitioner, Lorelei has presented ballet and repertoire master classes and residencies all over the world. For her work Mrs Bari’s has received many national & international awards; among them: in 2022 – “Outstanding teacher Award”, awarded by the jury of Youth America Grand Prix; in 2018 – “Excellence Award”, offered by the Union of the Choreography Arts Romania; in 2015 – “Great pedagogic work”, awarded by the European Dance Union during the competition Dance Star, and “Best teacher Award”, offered by the World Ballet Competition, in 2014.
LAGUN SENGELEN, Ballet dancer of Ankara State Opera and Ballet
Lagun Sengelen was born and educated in Turkiye, where she graduated Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatory as a high honor student. She performed many roles in both classic and contemporary performances as a Swan Lake, Nutcracker, Harem, Gala Ballet, Turandot and Aida in Ankara State Opera and Ballet. In addition to her artist personality, Lagun established her own dancewear brand in 2019, where she sells her designs. Lagun Dancewear, Turkey’s first and only dancewear store founded by Lagun, design products for all dancers from A to Z. Today, products designed under the roof of LDW are delivered all over the world.
MARIANA PINTILIE, Principal of “Octavian Stroia” Choreography and Dramatic Art High School
As a principal (headmaster) of “Octavian Stroia” Choreography and Dramatic Art High School of Cluj-Napoca, since 2015, he ensured the application of the curriculum for the specialized training of future ballerinas, completed with professional certificate level 4 (ballerina/dancer). He also organized public representations of ballet and contemporary dance performances which highlighted future ballet dancer’s artistic and technical skills. Professor Doctor Mariana Pintilie is one of the most important supporters of the choreographic art at the Ballet School in Cluj, but also at the national level, for more than two decades.
NIKITA ALBA, International Dance Photographer Nikki Roberts (Nikita Alba), owner of “Nikita Alba Photography” is a trained dancer and now an award-winning dance photographer working with Dancers and leading dancewear brands across the UK & Europe. Nikki’s highly acclaimed work has been published in Dancing Times, Dance Europe, Inside Dance Magazine and many other leading dance publications worldwide. Her ability to capture movement and emotion in a still image whilst paying attention to correct lines and technique defines her photographic style. Most recently Nikita Alba was awarded 1st prize winner of Ballet Magazine Romania’s ‘Photographer of the Year’. Nikki is delighted to be on the next instalment judging panel and excited to see all the beautiful “ballerinas in red” entries!
VIVIA SĂNDULESCU, Ballet critic and historian
After having graduated from the State Ballet School in Bucharest, studied languages at the University, got a Master’s degree in cultural management in France and a doctor’s degree in Theatrology, Vivia Săndulescu-Dutton shared her activities between teaching and writing. She has been teaching a variety of subjects related to dance in schools and universities in Bucharest, Constanta and Iassy, and has translated books from English and French. She also works extensively as a ballet critic and historian, as materialized in books such as „Choreographic records. The Ballet company of the Bucharest National Opera”, „Six decades of ballet at the Iassy Romanian Opera”, and the articles collection „Pixels on the dance screen”.
LORENZO GATTO, International ballet photographer
Lorenzo Gatto has turned his passion for photography into a profession in 2006, when he started work as a photographer for a dance company. Since 2009 he has collaborated with the Omonia Contemporary Arts dance company. He has artistic projects with various dancers and choreographers of the Italian contemporary scene. His focus on the contemporary dance led him to produce projects in which dance has been photographed on the streets of Palermo. Since 2015 three photographic works are on permanent display at the Roberto Bilotti Ruggi d’Aragona museum and since 2017 at the MACS contemporary art museum. In 2010 Lorenzo Gatto founded Palermo Photo World.
