Once again, it is the time of year when we all come together to celebrate the world of dance. In 2022, for the Hungarian National Ballet, the only classical ballet company in Hungary, this occasion is especially important. Following a restoration of almost five years, the company has recently returned to its home at the beautifully restored Neo-Renaissance Opera House in Budapest with a repertoire that caters for every taste.
“Are you interested in Hungarian music and dance? The Wooden Princese to the exceptional music of one of the greatest composers of the 20th century, Béla Bartók is the right choice for you.”
“Do you like a mix of elegance and comic? Have you heard of the adventures of a knight called Don Quixote? Come on in and follow him on his quest.”
“Are you a hardcore ballet enthusiast? Prepare to be amazed by the dance techniques as we embark on a journey across Swan Laketo one of the most touching music ever written.”
“Do you prefer something contemporary and visionary? See an ancient legend turn into a real-life drama in The Pygmalion Effect, for the first time in Hungary.
“Christmas time is coming? There is no doubt that The Nutcracker is the perfect way to bring your family together to celebrate.”
“Fancy a bit of Renaissance hilarity? Be transported to Padua and see Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew unfold into an amazing dance comedy.”
“Want to introduce your children to the world of classical ballet? Bring them to the children’s versions of Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty, where parents can also fall in love with ballet.”
“Are you a fan of history? Immerse yourself in the tragic story of Crown Prince Rudolph from the late 19thcentury with the spectacular production of Mayerling featuring music by Franz Liszt.”
No matter what type of performances you like, how old you are, if you are an expert on ballet or you are about to take your first steps into the magical world of dance, we are here for you. Join us at our workshops, auditions, children’s programmes, and a variety of main stage performances where the truly universal languages of the world – music and dance – will bring us all together.
